Ghent Low Emission Zone (LEZ) Guide
Detailed rules, boundary map, day passes, and registration requirements for Ghent.
📍 Zone Scope & Boundaries
The Ghent LEZ covers the entire historic city center bounded by the R40 ring road. The ring road R40 itself is NOT part of the LEZ, allowing transit around the city without entering the restricted area.
Entering the area inside the R40 immediately brings you into the active LEZ zone. The zone is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
🚗 Allowed & Banned Vehicles (2026 Rules)
As part of the Flemish region, Ghent shares identical rules and Euro standard schedules with Antwerp:
- Petrol / LPG / CNG: Euro 2 or higher are allowed (Euro 1 and lower are banned).
- Diesel: Euro 6 (6d/6temp) or higher are allowed. Diesel Euro 5 are banned but can enter temporarily by purchasing a permit/tariff.
- Electric & Hydrogen: Always allowed with no restrictions.
