Antwerp Low Emission Zone (LEZ) Guide

Detailed rules, boundary map, LEZ day passes, and registration for Antwerp.

📍 Zone Scope & Boundaries

The Antwerp LEZ covers the entire city center (intra-muros area inside Singel road R10) and the Left Bank (Linkeroever, postcode 2050). The zone is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Exception: The Ring R1 (outer highway ring road) is NOT part of the LEZ. However, taking exits leading directly into the city center will immediately bring you into the active LEZ zone.

🚗 Allowed & Banned Vehicles (2026 Rules)

Low emission standards in Flanders (Antwerp and Ghent) are stricter than in Brussels, especially for diesel vehicles:

  • Petrol / LPG / CNG: Euro 2 or higher are allowed (Euro 1 and lower are banned).
  • Diesel: Euro 6 (6d/6temp) or higher are allowed. Diesel Euro 5 are banned but can enter temporarily by purchasing a permit/tariff.
  • Electric & Hydrogen: Always allowed with no restrictions.

💸 Fines & Enforcement

Monitored automatically by ANPR cameras. Fines start at €150 for the first violation, and increase to €250 and €350 for repeated offenses within 12 months. All foreign plate vehicles (except Netherlands) must register in advance or face a €150 registration fine.

🎟️ LEZ Day Ticket

If your vehicle does not meet the standards, you can buy a LEZ Day Ticket for €35. You can buy a maximum of 8 day tickets per vehicle per calendar year. Tickets can be bought online, at payment machines in town, or up until 6:00 AM the morning after entering the zone.

⚖️ Appealing an Antwerp LEZ Fine

Fines start at €150. You can submit an appeal within 30 days to the Antwerp City tax department. Provide proof that your vehicle complied or was registered before entering the zone.

🚀 Flemish LEZ Expansions

Ghent and Antwerp share identical rules under the Flemish regional government. No additional Flemish cities have active LEZs yet, but cities like Mechelen are evaluating similar frameworks.
